Climate Change and Human Health

Coverage from State of the Planet, Republica, and others

Climate change affects people through heat, floods, storms, drought, air pollution, food and water insecurity, and slower changes to livelihoods and communities.

The consequences range from trauma, anxiety, depression, sleep disruption, and climate grief to neurological risks, disrupted schooling, displacement, and reduced access to care. Children, migrants, older people, and communities with fewer resources can face disproportionate harm. Research and practice also focus on preparedness, cooling and shelter, psychological first aid, community resilience, and climate-responsive health services.
