Jackson Pauses Data Centers Pending New Regulations

Jackson is delaying consideration of Saxum Investment Company’s proposed data center in northwest Jackson while the city develops standards for noise, emissions, utility burdens, setbacks, and community impacts.

The project would require rezoning a largely undeveloped site from residential and commercial uses to industrial use, but residents and council members are concerned about water, power, sewer capacity, environmental effects, and the scale of local benefits. The Planning Board hearing is expected to remain on hold until the city adopts its standards and completes further public hearings.
