Edgewater Puts Data Centers to Vote

Edgewater, Florida, commissioners unanimously approved a November ballot measure that would let voters prohibit hyperscale and artificial-intelligence data centers, cryptocurrency mining operations, and other high-end data-processing facilities.

The proposal follows months of concern about water use, aquifer stress, electricity demand, grid capacity, equipment noise, land availability, and whether such facilities would deliver durable local benefits. Its outcome remains unresolved, while similar restrictions are being considered elsewhere in Central Florida.
