Oregon Superhot Geothermal

Coverage from TechCrunch, Global Renewable News, and others

Oregon has become a focal point for efforts to commercialize superhot geothermal power, with Quaise Energy and Mazama Energy pursuing different approaches to extracting heat from deep, extremely hot rock.

Quaise’s Project Obsidian near Newberry Volcano combines enhanced geothermal development with millimeter-wave drilling intended to reach high-temperature resources at depth, while Mazama is developing deep enhanced-geothermal wells aimed at supercritical conditions. Their work brings together drilling innovation, project finance, strategic industry partnerships, and the challenge of proving that superhot resources can support reliable grid-scale electricity.
