Smart Batteries Could Enable 150 GW…Smart Batteries Could Enable 150 GW More German Solar
Coverage from TaiyangNews, reNEWS, and others

A Fraunhofer IEE study commissioned by BSW-Solar estimates that smart battery systems at 1,313 rural German substations could accommodate about 150 GW of additional solar capacity. Its reference scenario requires roughly 60 GW and 240 GWh of storage and projects average annual curtailment of about 1 percent for the additional generation. The findings support using storage and more flexible grid operation alongside continued network expansion, but the estimate is based on analysis of 20 transformers and extrapolation to a much larger set of substations.
