Planetary Health Check Finds Seven…Planetary Health Check Finds Seven Boundaries Breached

The 2026 Planetary Health Check, produced by more than 60 scientists associated with the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, finds that seven of nine planetary boundaries are beyond safe limits, all at their highest recorded levels of transgression. Ocean acidification is the latest boundary to have crossed its limit, in 2025. The assessment also warns that heat, drought, fires and ecosystem degradation may weaken natural carbon sinks, reducing their capacity to absorb carbon dioxide.
