Illinois regulators awarded 600 megawatts of utility-scale battery storage in the state’s first procurement under the Clean and Reliable Grid Affordability Act, below the 1,038-megawatt target. Four projects totaling 520 megawatts are in MISO territory, while one 80-megawatt project is in PJM territory. The state plans further procurements as it works toward at least 3,000 megawatts of storage by 2030; later rounds may allow batteries paired with wind or solar.
