ASEAN AI Governance Cooperation

Coverage from Tech For Good Institute, Sociable, and others

ASEAN AI Governance Cooperation topic image

ASEAN AI governance cooperation brings regional guidance, institutions, and capacity-building efforts together as member states develop their own approaches to AI.

The ASEAN Guide on AI Ethics and Governance, the ASEAN Working Group on AI Governance, and a proposed ASEAN AI Safety Network illustrate efforts to align principles and expand capabilities such as red-teaming, benchmarking, and model evaluation. Cooperation also addresses the practical challenge of making governance approaches work across different languages, economies, and digital systems. The aim is to support safer AI development while enabling cross-border coordination and a stronger collective role in global governance.
