El-Obeid Siege and Drone Attacks

El-Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan, occupies a strategic route linking central Sudan with Khartoum and Darfur and hosts a major Sudanese military installation.

During the siege, reported drone strikes have affected civilian areas and infrastructure, including markets, schools, water points, power facilities, fuel supplies, and medical services. The resulting shortages and movement restrictions have intensified risks from hunger, disease, displacement, and inadequate healthcare. UN officials and humanitarian organizations have warned that continued fighting could produce mass atrocities, while competing accounts attribute attacks and civilian harm to both major Sudanese forces and point to foreign support sustaining the conflict.
