Towns Pause New Data Center Projects

Municipal governments in New York and Wisconsin are delaying or reviewing new data center projects through moratoria, application holds, and proposed zoning changes.

Officials and residents are focusing on grid capacity, water use, infrastructure costs, environmental impacts, and local land-use compatibility before allowing additional development. The pauses range from one year to three years and differ in scope, exemptions, and treatment of projects already in formal review.
