Texas Shifts Data Center Grid Costs

Greg Abbott has directed state regulators to develop measures requiring data centers to cover the electricity infrastructure costs associated with their grid connections. The effort also targets tax incentives, water use, noise, and community impacts as data center proposals grow across the state. Regulators must report on available actions by July 17, while ERCOT and local governments face pressure to manage connection demand and limited local authority.
