Taylor, Texas rejected a resident petition seeking to pause or prohibit new data centers, concluding that zoning changes cannot proceed through the initiative or ballot process under state law.
The city is instead revising its comprehensive plan and land development code to address data center siting, water conservation, noise, air quality, and neighborhood compatibility, with an ordinance expected for City Council consideration in September 2026.
