Springfield Utility Reviews Data Center Demand

City Utilities of Springfield is evaluating inquiries from companies interested in building data centers but has not approved a project.

The utility is creating a large-load review process that can assess proposals of up to roughly 500 megawatts or more, including effects on electric, water, and natural gas systems, reliability, regional grid upgrades, and permitting. Proposed special rates, contracts, and financial commitments are intended to prevent existing customers from absorbing infrastructure costs if projects proceed or later change.
