Nebraska Tightens Data Center Rules

Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen has restricted approval of new data center applications seeking ImagiNE Nebraska Act tax incentives and created a task force to assess projects' effects on electricity, water, land, and local infrastructure.

The state is also moving toward rules that would require large data center users to address their own power needs rather than shift costs to public utilities and ratepayers. The task force is expected to inform county zoning guidance and possible 2027 legislation, making project timelines and future investment conditions less certain.
