Khanna Advances Community Data Center Rights

Ro Khanna has proposed a federal Data Center Bill of Rights that would give communities more power to reject or condition projects and would establish a 2,500-foot setback from homes and sensitive facilities. The proposal also calls for water-use disclosure, protections against higher electricity costs, independent impact assessments, fair taxation, community benefit agreements, and conditions on public subsidies. It reflects growing concern in Pennsylvania and other states over the local effects of rapid data center development, but the measure remains a proposal and related state actions are still under consideration.
