Jay Data Center Project

JGT2 Redevelopment, associated with developer Tony McDonald, proposed a roughly $550 million data center on the former Androscoggin Mill brownfield in Jay, Maine.

The plan drew on the site’s industrial infrastructure and was presented as a source of jobs and local revenue, while also raising questions about energy use, water, environmental review, and the benefits and oversight of large data-center projects. Maine Governor Janet Mills vetoed a proposed moratorium that could have affected the project and later created an advisory council to study data-center development. Sentinel Data Centers subsequently said it would not proceed, leaving the project on hold while JGT2 explored other interest.
