Geothermal Power Could Decarbonize Singapore’s Data Center Boom

Data center operators and policymakers are exploring geothermal power to provide continuous, lower-carbon electricity as demand grows and grid, land, and emissions constraints tighten.

Announced agreements involving Google, Meta, and Amazon indicate early commercial traction in the United States, while a proposed Sumatra–Singapore interconnection would link South Sumatran geothermal resources to Singapore’s expanding data center market. The approach still depends on successful exploration, new transmission, financing, permitting, and cross-border coordination.
