EPA Review of PFAS Cooling Fluid

Seventeen environmental groups led by Earthjustice are urging the US Environmental Protection Agency to reject or subject Chemours’ proposed Opteon 2P50 PFAS refrigerant to a full review rather than an expedited process.

The dispute centers on whether available toxicology and climate-risk data are sufficient, and whether closed-loop two-phase cooling adequately addresses leakage and disposal concerns. The EPA’s decision could affect the adoption of lower-water cooling systems and establish how quickly chemicals used in data centers are reviewed under the administration’s executive order.
