Eastport Underwater Data Center Fight

DeepGreen Western Passage is seeking federal approval to study and potentially develop a tidal-powered underwater AI data center off Eastport, Maine.

FERC accepted a revised preliminary permit filing, but the action does not authorize construction, while Eastport has imposed a temporary moratorium amid concerns about wetlands, fisheries, thermal pollution, grid strain, and limited local benefits. The proposal is also contributing to a broader debate over how Maine should regulate large data center projects.
