ERCOT is requiring 461 proposed Texas data center projects seeking at least 25 megawatts to complete a detailed community-impact survey by October 12. The audit, ordered by Gov. Greg Abbott alongside a pause on approvals for new large projects, examines electricity demand, self-generation, water use, cooling systems, financing, ownership and local effects. ERCOT and the Public Utility Commission of Texas are also verifying whether Batch Zero projects have the documentation needed for construction, with findings expected in December.
