The Paris Agreement’s 1.

5°C goal is a benchmark for assessing whether national climate plans and policies deliver the emissions cuts needed to avoid or limit temperature overshoot. Exceeding that level raises risks including more intense heatwaves and floods, ecosystem damage, and greater demands on adaptation. Responses include faster renewable-energy deployment, cuts to greenhouse gases and methane, adaptation measures, climate finance, and—if overshoot occurs—carbon dioxide removal. The challenge also involves cooperation over support for countries facing climate risks and the fair delivery of clean-energy transitions.
