Pennsylvania Sets Data Center Power Rules

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro has proposed GRID Standards to tie data center development to power planning, infrastructure funding, clean energy procurement, and environmental and community safeguards.

The framework would require developers to provide or fund incremental electricity and related transmission capacity, while linking state incentives to ongoing compliance. Its implementation faces legislative and regulatory hurdles as residents and some lawmakers push for stronger local control, additional study, or a temporary moratorium on new projects.
