OECD Studies Map Renewable Transition Drivers
Coverage from Wiley, Nature, and others

Research on OECD economies finds that renewable energy transition and broader sustainability outcomes depend on more than income or energy policy alone.
R&D investment, technological innovation, regulatory quality, trade openness, ICT, green patents and environmental capacity show different effects across countries and stages of transition. The findings support policies tailored to national transition conditions, while highlighting the persistence of fossil-fuel lock-in and the importance of institutional capacity.
The core findings are largely unchanged, but the framing has sharpened toward country-specific transition conditions and institutional capacity. The current version also clarifies the evidence base and broadens the policy-relevant measures slightly, without changing the underlying conclusion.
