New York Battery Demand Response

New York City utilities and a battery startup are scaling a renter-focused pilot that uses plug-in batteries to run window air conditioners during heat-wave peaks, reducing grid strain and shifting demand off peak hours.

The strongest signal is operational expansion: more than 1,000 homes, roughly 200 kW growing toward 2 MW, cash rebates, and smartphone-coordinated dispatch.
