Large Batteries Pair With Solar
Coverage from OkDiario, Baltic News, and others

Large battery projects are increasingly being combined with solar generation and existing power assets to extend renewable supply beyond periods of sunshine and support grid balancing.
Projects and supply agreements in the UAE, Spain, the Baltic states and Romania include standalone batteries, solar-plus-storage facilities, and floating solar linked to hydropower reservoirs. The pattern points to a broader shift toward longer-duration storage as renewable generation expands and power systems require more flexibility, though several announced projects remain at the planning or agreement stage.
The story is now more clearly centered on a narrower set of major battery-storage deals tied to solar and hydropower assets, with CATL becoming the named supplier for Grenergy’s Spanish projects. The broader Southeast Europe portfolio from Alive Capital/Sieyuan drops out, while the remaining projects are framed more explicitly as longer-duration storage agreements aimed at 2027 execution.
The story has broadened from a mostly Europe-and-UAE roundup into a more execution-focused view that adds a new Southeast Europe storage initiative and sharper details on project readiness. The biggest new development is Alive Capital’s proposed 2.5 GWh deployment with Sieyuan Electric, which materially expands the regional scope and moves the narrative toward multi-phase implementation.
