Fossil-Fuel Phaseout Roadmaps

Coverage from The Conversation, Climate Change News, and others

The Santa Marta process brings governments, scientists, civil society, and financial experts together to develop practical roadmaps for moving away from coal, oil, and gas.

Convened by Colombia and the Netherlands outside the formal UN climate negotiations, the discussions address national targets, fossil-fuel subsidies, exported emissions, transition finance, worker protections, and the role of renewables, batteries, electric vehicles, and other technologies. The process also connects to Brazil’s roadmap work and the SPGET advisory panel, linking diplomacy with implementation. A central question is how to turn broad phaseout goals into credible, adequately financed, and socially inclusive policies.
