Global Warming Acceleration Since 2015
Coverage from Health Policy Watch, Times of India, and others
Researchers at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research and collaborators have examined multiple global temperature records to assess whether warming has sped up since 2015.
After accounting for influences such as El Niño, volcanic activity, solar variation, and other natural fluctuations, the studies estimate a rate of roughly 0.35°C per decade, compared with less than 0.2°C per decade from 1970 to 2015. The findings connect the faster trend to the prospect of approaching or exceeding 1.5°C above preindustrial levels, while emphasizing that future warming depends strongly on fossil-fuel emissions.
