Extreme heat is increasingly affecting how people in the United States manage household costs, travel, sleep, exercise, commuting, and outdoor activities.

An AP-NORC poll conducted in late July 2026 found that roughly four in five adults reported impacts on electricity bills, while many also reported disrupted travel and family activities. The findings underscore how persistent heat, drought, and related wildfire and infrastructure risks are becoming more tangible household and community pressures.
