Britain May Miss 2030 Clean Power Target, Says ECIU

Britain is expanding renewable generation and reforming project approvals and grid connections, but current projections suggest clean sources will provide about 83% of electricity by 2030, below the government’s 95% target.

The shortfall is linked mainly to delayed network upgrades, renewable power being constrained off the grid, and continued gas generation when wind and solar output is insufficient or cannot reach demand. Even if the target is delayed, the planned buildout is expected to reduce gas use, power-sector emissions and exposure to global gas-price shocks, although lower household bills are not yet guaranteed.
