Congo Basin Carbon Finance Roadmaps
Coverage from Channel Africa, Devdiscourse, and others

Six Congo Basin countries have launched country-specific roadmaps, supported by the World Bank, to improve access to carbon markets and results-based climate finance linked to their forests.
The plans emphasize governance, monitoring, reporting and verification, legal and institutional readiness, and fairer benefit sharing, while connecting forest conservation with jobs and national development. Implementation remains uneven, with Gabon and the Republic of Congo further ahead on pilot agreements and REDD+ activity than some other participating countries.
The story now emphasizes implementation detail and differentiation across countries: the roadmaps are country-specific, and Gabon and the Republic of Congo are shown as further along with pilot results-based agreements and REDD+ progress. It also adds a new policy linkage to Congo Basin Forest Ecosystem Accounts, tying the initiative more directly to national development and investment planning.
The story is now framed more explicitly as a carbon-finance rollout centered on investable forest assets, rather than mainly a governance and readiness initiative. The latest version also puts more emphasis on MRV credibility, regulatory integrity, and development revenue as core requirements for success.
