Biosolar Roofs Boost Heatwave Solar Output

A biosolar roof at Bradfield City's First Building in Western Sydney combined photovoltaic panels with native vegetation and generated 11.

1% more electricity than conventional rooftop solar during summer 2025. Vegetation cooled the roof by up to 28°C, with generation gains reaching 23.25% during extreme heat, while also retaining stormwater, filtering pollutants, and supporting recorded animal species. The findings are informing Bradfield City's plans for broader biosolar roof use, although the evidence currently comes from a single installation.
