Belgium UK Carbon Storage Deal

Belgium and the UK have moved to formalize cross-border carbon capture and storage cooperation, creating a regulatory pathway for CO2 captured in Belgium to be transported for permanent storage in UK offshore sites.

The agreement addresses a major legal barrier under the London Protocol and is framed by officials and industry groups as a step toward a wider North Sea carbon storage market. A separate EU decision to support Belgium’s Kairos@C project shows the deal sits within a broader buildout of industrial CCS infrastructure and public funding support.
