ASEAN AI Governance

Coverage from Tech For Good Institute, Sociable, and others

ASEAN AI Governance topic image

ASEAN AI governance is the region’s effort to coordinate how artificial intelligence is guided and assessed across countries with different laws, economies, languages, and digital systems.

Regional work includes the ASEAN Guide on AI Ethics and Governance, an ASEAN Working Group on AI Governance, and plans for shared safety capabilities such as red teaming, benchmarking, and model evaluation. National frameworks in countries including Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, and Vietnam provide important context, while cross-border interoperability remains a central challenge. The coordination matters because AI systems, risks, and data flows do not stop at national borders.
