Utah Tightens Flock Camera Data Access

Utah officials, privacy advocates, and law-enforcement agencies are debating how automatic license plate reader data from Flock Safety cameras should be accessed, searched, and retained.

Records from Weber County show more than five million searches of 10 cameras since early 2022, many by out-of-state agencies, while Garfield County has defended its own camera network as a tool for investigations and emergencies. The debate is driving calls for tighter state rules, clearer limits on external access, and stronger auditing of searches.
