OPM Breach Protection Nears Expiration

Federally funded credit monitoring and identity-theft insurance for people affected by the 2015 OPM breaches are scheduled to expire after roughly 10 years of coverage, with services ending for many recipients by September 30, 2026.

The breaches exposed sensitive personnel, security-clearance, financial, health, and biometric information linked to approximately 22 million people. Legislation introduced by Senator Mark Warner and Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton would provide lifetime protection and preserve insurance, but its congressional status and support remain uncertain.
