Maryland Advocates Seek Data Broker Probe

Privacy and civil rights organizations have asked Maryland Attorney General Anthony Brown to investigate data brokers and technology companies over alleged sales of residents' geolocation, vehicle-location, and other personal information to law enforcement, including U.

S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The complaint comes as provisions of Maryland's Online Data Privacy Act restrict certain sensitive-data sales and require specified legal authority for some location-data requests. The companies named in the complaint dispute the allegations, leaving the central legal and factual questions unresolved.
