Louisiana Data Privacy Law

Coverage from Louisiana Illuminator, Windows Forum, and others

Louisiana Data Privacy Law topic image

Louisiana’s central comprehensive consumer privacy law is the Louisiana Data Privacy Act (LDPA), enacted as Senate Bill 386 and signed by Governor Jeff Landry.

It gives residents rights to access, correct, delete, and obtain portable copies of personal information, as well as opt out of targeted advertising, data sales, and certain profiling. The law also sets rules for covered businesses, including consent for sensitive-data processing, privacy notices, data safeguards, and assessments of higher-risk activities. Enforcement is assigned to the Louisiana Attorney General, making the law’s scope, compliance duties, and enforcement framework key dimensions of Louisiana privacy-law developments.
