ICE and Flock Expand U.S. Surveillance

S. immigration and law-enforcement agencies are expanding surveillance capabilities that collect facial images, fingerprints, identity-document photographs, license plates, and vehicle characteristics. ICE uses Mobile Fortify for identity checks, while Flock Safety cameras create searchable vehicle records that may be shared with partner agencies. The deployments have prompted Senator Ed Markey and other lawmakers to question testing, officer use, data access, retention, and safeguards, even as preliminary data shows violent crime declining across 66 major U.S. jurisdictions.
