Equifax Credit-Report Errors
Coverage from WebProNews, Barchart, and others

Equifax credit-report errors can have consequences beyond an inaccurate file: duplicate negative collection accounts may make balances appear larger and affect consumers’ credit scores or access to loans and other credit.
In Bradberry v. Equifax Information Services LLC, a class action alleged that such duplication occurred in 2022; a proposed settlement provides for compensation and credit-monitoring protections for eligible consumers. The case illustrates how disputes over credit-report accuracy can lead to legal claims and corrective remedies.
The story now includes a separate proposed $100 million settlement over credit-score errors affecting an estimated four million consumers, substantially broadening it beyond the duplicate-reporting case. It also adds a status update on the 2017 breach settlement: consumer payments are reportedly complete, though identity-restoration support continues.
