Disneyland Facial Recognition

Coverage from Latimes, WKRN, and others

Disneyland Facial Recognition topic image

At Disneyland and Disney California Adventure, entrance facial recognition is used to compare a guest’s image with one associated with a ticket or annual pass.

The system is intended to verify identity and help prevent ticket fraud, but its collection of biometric data has prompted questions about how clearly guests are informed, whether consent is meaningful—especially for children—and how long information is retained. A proposed class action challenges the parks’ practices; Disney has said guests can use staff-assisted ticket validation instead and that data is deleted within 30 days except for legal or fraud-prevention purposes.
