California CCPA Deletion Rights

California CCPA Deletion Rights topic image

The California Consumer Privacy Act gives consumers a right to request deletion of covered personal information, and SB 923 extends that right to information collected about them from sources beyond the consumers themselves.

The rules also address how requests can be submitted, including an online option for certain online-only businesses, and how data brokers process requests through the state’s deletion and opt-out platform. Businesses may retain limited information when necessary to keep deleted data from returning or being reused. Together, these provisions connect the right to delete with the practical systems needed to carry it out.
