In June 2026, unauthorized access to Aflac Japan’s policyholder portal and related systems exposed information associated with approximately 4.
38 million customers and agents. Reported data included personal details, security information, and insurance account records; premium-transfer account information for about 230,000 people was also reported stolen. Aflac Japan said the incident did not affect U.S. business systems, suspended affected systems, and reported service disruption and recovery efforts. Its response included an investigation with outside cybersecurity experts, notifications to Japanese financial authorities and the SEC, and plans to notify affected individuals.
