Marine Counter-Drone Defense

The U.

S. Marine Corps is developing layered mobile defenses against small drones, loitering munitions, and one-way attack aircraft. Systems such as MADIS and L-MADIS combine radar, optics, passive radio-frequency sensing, electronic jamming, and kinetic weapons, including the Bullfrog robotic station paired with an M240 machine gun. The effort spans Ground-Based Air Defense, training aboard amphibious ships, fielding in locations such as Okinawa, and the push for open architecture so Marine air-defense components can work with other agencies. A central question is whether these capabilities can be integrated and deployed quickly enough to address rapidly evolving threats.
