Drone Bridge Inspection
Coverage from WBAY, sUAS News, and others

Drone bridge inspection combines high-definition imaging, specialized sensors, computer vision, and autonomous flight planning to examine structures while reducing the need for lifts, extensive traffic closures, and personnel exposure.
Research at Edmonton’s Low Level Bridge has used 3D Gaussian Splatting and optimized paths to improve inspection coverage, while the UK’s STRUCTURE program is testing automated defect detection on masonry bridges. Transportation agencies such as WisDOT are also using drones to examine decks, undersides, piers, and arches as part of routine structural assessments.
