Shareholders Challenge Times Over Platner Coverage

The National Center for Public Policy Research and allied attorneys are demanding New York Times Company records over alleged failures in editorial oversight, fact-checking, and corrections tied partly to reporting on former Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner.

The group said it may pursue a shareholder lawsuit in New York if the company does not produce records by July 21, while the Times defended its journalism and characterized the demand as an attempt to chill protected reporting. The dispute places Platner’s withdrawn campaign and broader Israel-related coverage within a larger conflict over newsroom standards and corporate accountability.
