Fifteen Maine Jewish leaders, including 11 rabbis, issued a statement opposing politicians' use of the term genocide to describe Israel's war in Gaza.

The Jewish Community Alliance of Southern Maine said the wording was misleading, inflamed hostility toward Maine's Jewish community, and blurred legal and moral distinctions, while acknowledging Palestinian suffering. The intervention directly challenges Troy Jackson's position as the Democratic Senate nominee before his November contest with Republican incumbent Susan Collins.
